M16A4 Assault Rifle

I bring you the M16A4 Assault Rifle. I’ve gone for a Battlefield 3 design, such as the stock wrap etc. The model is based on my own airsoft rifle, with a few tweaks to make it look more like the real steel.

This has taken me about 2 months to model and texture. It consists of approximately 4.1 million polygons, very highly detailed mesh. Proportions are 1:1, using real life authentic references.

The lighting setup is an HDR image as seen in the background, coming from the DOSCH: Desert & Dawn pack. Other than that, there is a VraySun being projected from the HDR’s sun position to render direct shadowing. This combined with some Photoshop work for contrast/brightness adjustments etc.

I chose to go for a dirty approach, since that conveys where and how a soldier has used the weapon. In the future, I am hoping to make a soldier character for this rifle.

Hope you like it!

Beautiful and intricate mesh and textures. The pic labelled camera_06 really brings your mesh work to justice. Well Done! :D

Awesome work! Sir, you deserve getting a good job in some gaming/advertiesement/movie company. Are you a student? And, if answer is yes, can you note which university are you studying in?
Before I forget, you are from Sweden, right? Pretty badass country. :)

Thanks man! Nope, I’m not a student. I’ve learned everything by myself or through tutorials on the Internet.

Yes I’m from Sweden haha :)

But, you ALSO studied with tutorials and your models are beast! +5 internets won. :P Do you have any tips for modelling and texturing? If you can answer, I’d be very glad (you can contact me through my email or from here) sir. :)

Hey, just stumbled upon this doing some image searches and I want to say you’ve done an amazing job! Also that your EOTech appears to be modeled on a replica instead of the real thing and I’d love to help you correct the inaccuracies if you’d be interested (it’s a total nit-pick but I’m an EOTech fanboy and I always notice these kinds of things, regardless of how unimportant).

    Cheers though!

Thanks Logan! I’d be more than happy if you can point them out. You’re right, I did use a replica of an EOTech as it’s the only thing I have home, and I tried to compare them both (replica and the real one) as much as possible with reference pictures from the Internet, but it’s hard to get it completely right without holding it in your hands. So yeah, I’d be glad if you can point the inaccuracies out :) I don’t think I’ll be correcting them, but it would be interesting to see what I missed out!
